The Sierra Club, Alliance for Wild Rockies, and Forest Conservation Council. According to the GAO, 84 interest groups filed more than 400 appeals of Forest Service proposals. The appeals delayed efforts to treat 900,000 acres of forests and cost the federal government millions of dollars to address

Yes, Dahlin', we should!!!! Then when they can't come up with the full amount in cash, they should cover the remainder of the bill by "in kind" payment! In other words, make them "volunteer" to help remove the dead underbrush!

Of course we should... those tree hugging, Birkenstock wearing, granola eating liberal groups should be billed. We should be smart in taking care of our national parks and wild life. This is the perfect example of libs NEVER learning from history. How many times have we had fires in CA? How do they always spread so rapidly? We can't control the wind... (although libs probably think we can... GW and that hurricane machine of his)... But we should be smart enough to clear the underbrush which fuels these fires. They will never learn though.
My question is... if they are so concerned with leaving nature as is.... why do they try to distinguish a wildfire caused by lightning? Isn't that nature just taking it's course? So glad I don't live in the Northern part of the state. They are so screwed up they won't even allow our own military in the bay area. (OK... pretty much just the San Fran area and some of Sacramento is all screwed up... love the far north though!

Nope, we should just get back our tax money that goes to the federal government that goes to subsidize the poor economies of red states.
We only get back 70 cents for ever dollar we pay to the federal government as Californians. Did you overlook that point before you criticized the largest, wealthiest state in the union? I think you must have.
btw - most of those Forest Service proposals are in the Sierras and the forests of Northern California - far away from the shrubby hillsides which frame the basins of Southern California. Just thought I would point that out.

When I last visited CA I was surprised that a State between an ocean and a mountain kept so much land undeveloped and still forested. Maybe that pushes up real estate values for all the celebrities there?

Given that the wildfires that are destroying homes are not in the national forests -- they are in backyards and playgrounds and industrial centers -- NO!
One has nothing to do with the other -- and anyone who tries to use a disaster like this to attack environmental groups who are not even involved should be ashamed of themselves.
The national forest fire issues are handled entirely differently -- and having personally been caught in several wilderness fires as well as several around city areas -- the causes and the fire-fighting efforts are drastically different. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
Try doing some actual research -- and consider having compassion for the thousands of people who lost their homes and businesses -- not to mention the hundreds of thousands who had to leave their homes because of this disaster.

Just as they hate the Military, they now need them. I say screw them you hate the military until you need them??? The hell with you.
As for treating the forests. They were too busy growing pot there to cut anything down.

I heard on TV last night that the Californians would not ALLOW the dying timbers and brush to be cleaned out.........and of course you know when there is fire, it LOVES the dying and dead brush and trees. WHY don't the authorities allow this......., I mean, anyone who owns woodland wants to keep it clean and resistant to fire ?
