These are fairly regional, especially boiled peanuts. Just curious who else had had these two and what your thoughts were on them.

My opinion? I think I could live on them! I love 'em both! lol

Thanks!

Good southern country cookin', you can't beat it. You made me hungry just reading the question. The only thing I didn't care for was boiled okra. But I put in top of peas that were cooking just to flavor the peas. Here are some other foods we ate: Corn on the cob Squash(fried or boiled) Purple Hull, Field, Cream, and Blackeyed peas Fresh Pinto Beans New Potatoes (sometimes with a cream sauce) Cucumbers Peach,Pear, and Fig(preserves, jellies, cobblers) Homemade Yeast Rolls Cornbread I love to watch Paula Dean. Since I am from the South, I have that southern draw, I have a couple say I sound like her. I didn't think it was that bad. I just cook some of this tomorrow.

Boiled peanuts? Chinese clear peanut soup that is - the large variety - very nice when boiled with pork ribs and lotus roots. The other way to eat is boiled/steamed and salted served with steamed or boiled rice along with other dishes. It's comfort food.

Fried okra - maybe with prawn paste and chilli. We like okra in curries, softened. It's slimy, so we use spices to balance the texture with taste. Curry gravy compensates for the sliminess. It's better as a savoury dish. Chinese don't use spices though but its fried sliced with other vegetables and meat slices - still savoury, not bland.

The okra has to be fried to a crisp or I'll gag, it's like eating raw frog guts if they're undercooked. Boiled peanuts? Buy them from Ed off the side of the road, and try to keep your truck clean. Yum!

Fried okra is the bomb! Love it and know how to cook it correctly. I also love boiled peanuts. My friend from Texas said they taste like pinto beans to her. It is all in the brine you boil them in and cooking the peanuts long enough to be soft but not over cooked. Also boiled peanuts are green peanuts not just any old peanuts. Born and raised in Georgia and living in Florida.

I have had both. I am not a big fan of either, nor am I a big fan of grits or hominy.

I do love biscuits and gravy, a steak or pork chop at breakfast, biscuits and honey, green beans and ham hocks, BBQ (of any cut), fried green tomatoes, etc. so it isn't a regional thing . I'm not a big peanut fan, and I never found okra fixed in a way that I particularly cared for.

Yeah, I'm from the midwest and we fry okra and fix it other ways too. I never had heard of boiled peanuts until I met my wife. She lived most of her life in the midwest but is orginally from LA (Lower Alabama). She introduced me to boiled peanuts and I LOVE THEM. I really don't like roasted ones though, never did.

I am not crazy about southern cooking, but there are a few things that I REALLY like. I like grits and eggs mixed and I like the way they do some veggies.
