If she's crying cause she's overtired then Gripe water itself does nothing. However if you are putting it on her suckie, it tastes good (most brands taste like black licorice), she hangs on to her suckie and is able to soothe herself to sleep. You could probably get the flavored suckie water for dipping the suckie in for the same effect. Easiest way to see if it's just helping her self soothe is to replace it with a drop of corn syrup and see if it has the same effect.
You would need to give her at least a quarter teaspoon for it it to have "medicinal" effect in helping to relieve gas discomfort and hiccups. However it is perfectly safe for a baby to have Gripe water, it's flavoured baking soda and you would be hard pressed to find any that still had alcohol in it. They make some wonderful all organic/natural versions as well but your best bet is the store brand, they generally have the least amount of unnecessary ingredients.
If this works for you then great!

I have a 2 month old daughter ,and I give her gripe water when she needs it .Like with a sick tummy or a lot of gas . The bottle I have reads its safe to give a 1 to 4 month old infants 1 teaspoon . I give my daughter 1 teaspoon in her bottle of water so she doesnt get the full taste of the gripe water . Seems to work . My Grandma told me to use it for her, and she is 82 . Used it with all her kids ,and my parents gave it to me as well when i was an infant . If your concerned though ask your Dr . Maybe baby has colic ?? Wouldnt hurt to ask . All the luck to you and your little one !

No. not at all. I used to have to give my son gripe water a few times everyday due to colick. It's the most amazing product out there, its the only thing that worked for colick for him. Plus, its all natural, no meds in it.

You should be fine as long as you follow the directions and dosage amount on the bottle. My son had this when he was gassy, teething or even had the hiccups! It was wonderful to use on the spot and he likes the taste. Just don't over-dose.

Gripe water used to contain alcohol. It's on our pediatrician's shelf of "dangerous things never to give your child". Maybe it still does...... ask your pediatricians.

No, it's a lifesaver and it sounds like you don't even use much. You should be fine.
