If you are building and maintaining the site yourself, I would think so. I do this and I have 2 sites. One is unlimited for $24.95 a month and one is basic for $9.95 a month. You can even get a free host but there are drawbacks with them. If it is a business site, I would suggest a paid site.
If you would like more info and tips, email me at bonnieram1962@yahoo.com and I will be glad to advise you on this if you'd like. Just be sure to let me know what the question was as I get many responses each day and can't remember all of the posts.
I wish you all the best and look forward to helping you.

I see this day in and day out at our site as we get reviews from people who use hosting companies (http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/). The problem is people see $10 dollar hosting and think that is fit for a business, IT IS NOT! If you want dependability, uptime, quality support, etc you need to pay more. I think depending on who is offering that price and what it gets you it should be fair.
You have to look at it from a step back, does your website and email have to be up or you are loosing money? If so its worth it to pay more for a good company. $50 dollars a month is well worth it if you are making $2,000 a month off your site or work you do through it.

$50 is FAR TOO MUCH!
I've done some research recently into web hosts - all a lot cheaper than this.
See my articles at:

I personally like Heart Internet (UK based) or Mango Hosting who are a Heart Internet reseller (US based)

For a small home business, yes.
$50 a year is more appropiate.

Yes, that's extremely high.
I use 1and1. They charge me $3.99 per month. They also have a toll-free tech support number. Their tech support is available 24 hours per day.
