Because there is an olympic sized pool underneath fenway. All of the players don speedos and goggles after the game and compete in the 4x100 medley. The winners get to play in the starting line up the next night.

Like everyone else said to protect his eyes from the celebration. A lot of players do this, not just on the Red Sox
