My worst is also my favorite Christmas. It was the year of "butIdidn't". It was in 2001 and everyone that was dear to me. This all happened within 5 days of X-mas that year. First my best friend came to me and said that he found the perfect gift for me and then went on to tell me what it was and how cool I would have thought it. Then after a slight pause says, "I knew you would love and I was going to get it for you, but I didn't." . Wow. Then my wife came to me and said that she came across the greatest gift that I would ever get, that it was totally me and she could not picture me not having this thing. She then says and again I quote, " It was so you, I was going to get it for you, but I didn't." Then and far from least my own mother, my flesh and blood, who had recently come back from a trip to Australia says to me over a phone call, "Do you like those Duster jacket from Austraila?". "Yes" I say, "Very much always wanted one." She then comes back with how inexpensive they were there and the great quality. As my heart leaps a little she drives the dagger in, "Well they had them and I was looking at them and I thought you would really like one and I was going to get you one ,but I didn't."
Now I did get a present from each of my boys and my wife and my friend and even my mother but they were all little to no use or value gifts, but this remains one of my fondest X-mas because I have gotten to tell that story a million time around X-mas and it always brings a smile to me because I don't think anyone else has ever not gotten three perfect presents.

It is ALWAYS "the thought that counts"!!!
I once got a small square of 'wood' (yes, WOOD!); and was told the "wood was like my future", in that I "could make it into anything I wanted"...! How's that for "thought"?!?
That little 'chunk of pine' meant (still does) more to me than the $100.00 I get every year from someone ('family' member...) who just can't be bothered to "think"; and who 'gives money' because it's 'easiest'! (And has to 'look good'...)
I've also been given a 'lump of coal'; once from a good friend, as a joke (with a wink and a hug), and I absolutely LOVED it (!); and another time from someone (another 'family member'...) who gave it out of spite (with vindictiveness and malice) and I wanted to shove it right up.....you know what I mean.....
The "thought" IS the "gift"....! So I guess (to get around to answering your question) the worst gift I've ever gotten is EVERY gift that has been given 'begrudgingly'! (Which is MOST at X-mas! People only give gifts because they "HAVE" to....! But I digress, I won't get into that.)

A gift certificate... for gas. My grandmother is losing her mind. She gave my sister a used pictionary game one year. She also gave my dad an alarm clock and batteries. Two years in a row. Same clock both years.

THE WORST Christmas "present" I EVER received was news of my Grandfather's death. He was a wonderful, caring man. He LOVED his children and grand children - but not to the point of spoiling us.
Almost 40 years later, it STILL hurts to this day.
This is one Q I didn't care to answer. However, you asked it. I gave an honest answer - as always.
