I've said it before, I'll say it again.....
If he really wanted to be with you he wouldn't care about the stares.
I'm all for age gap relationships (hubby is 22 years older) but this doesn't sound very viable.

His thinking to break up with you only for the reason of stares/ remarks from others lead me to think that he is not at all sincere towards you or a long term relationship.

Why would you want to go out with a man old enough to be your father? More importantly, why would a man old enough to be your father want to go out with you?
This man should be established in his life, he can drink, he can go to clubs etc.., Why would he want to go out with someone who can't?
It is odd and you will continue to get stares and looks. I am glad that it made him uncomfortable, it should.
You really need to think about the implications of this relationship and all the reasons.

if he worries so much about what people think and you dont maybe he isnt the right one for you. i think that you should just tell him that you like him for him and that he shouldlike you for you. you seem to really like him and i think that if he sees that maybe he'll get over what people think

It won't work. You are looking for a father figure. Do you have a dad you can talk to?
