Political "correctness" is the culprit behind terms that are inexact such as African-American to refer to Black people living in the USA.

Africans can be Black Bantus or many other people.
Africans can be white Afrikaaners from South Africa.
Africans can be white Deutschvolk from Namibia
Africans can be white Berber Algerians, Tunisian or Moroccans.
Africans can be white Arab Lybians, Moroccans, Algerians, Tunisians and Egyptians.
Africans can be ethnic Europeans born in Algeria.
Africans can be Jews living in Morocco.
African can be Malay Malagasy in Madagascar.
Africans can come in all colours.

Africa is a continent i.e. physical land mass, not a race, not a nationality.

If the US could live by referring to people by name, without mentioning race, the problem would disappear altogether.

Because any ancestry that has been in America for 400+ years is just American of African descent.
There are people that were born and raised in Africa that come here and become citizens. they are the true African Americans.
Please remember that all black people aren't African, nor are they all American.

They are but they rarely identify themselves as such unless it's to prove a point. Which box do you think Charlize Theron checks when she self-identifies?
