Could very well be. Or not at all. Study their body language and see if they are gesturing to you at all.
Are they strangers, friends or acquaintences. If they are strangers let them talk how they want. If they are the latter then request that they speak your language around you if they are proficient in English. But if English is hard for them, don't be too hard on them. Ask for a translation once in a while. Give them an opportunity to relax and be happy using a language they are more comfortable with.

If I'm part of the group, and someone starts speaking a language I don't understand, I just think that is rude, but only if I KNOW that they can speak english well, but simply choose not to. That's just plain rude! If I hear others speaking amongst themselves in another language, that's no problem at all. I don't give it a second thought. Don't be paranoid (but I understand exactly what you mean), it doesn't really matter if they are talking about you or not. The only person's opinion about you that should matter, is your own.
Take care

English is my first language. Spanish is my second. I speak Spanish very well, but I still have a lot to learn. The only way to truly learn another language is to speak it with other people. I've ran into situations while speaking Spanish that a total stranger walks up and says "learn English". I think it's completely egotistical to think just because a total stranger is speaking another language, that they must be talking about you behind your back. On the other hand, if they are people that you know, and you all are having a conversation and they switch to the other language in the middle, that's rude. If that's the case you can explain you're feelings, and I bet they'll respect them.

I hear a lot of Spanish around here (Ohio) but I had six years of Spanish so I know they're not talking about me.
While I believe the official language here should be English, if a group speaks amongst themselves in another language, no big deal--they may be more comfortable with their native language. As long as they can read and speak enough English to get by here and don't demand that everything be in their language, it's all good.

Yes, you may be acting a bit paranoid. If you were to visit another country, or move there and you came in contact with someone from your motherland, wouldn't you enjoy speaking to them in your own language? I deal with this everyday at work. I work in a place that has employed many people from Bosnia. In fact, one girl has tried to teach me a few words. We laugh at my in - expertise all the time. LOL. She happens to be one of my favorite people there. I don't find it rude. I enjoy listening to them actually.

Don't be paranoid. But if you want to have fun, you can start mimicking them.
