I am not a liberal, and i'm not a person who's very concerned with the environment. But when i saw this movie, I was very mad. Those electric cars would be SO cool to have! And GM could have made their company 100x better in the public eye and in other areas with it too...and we could get off of foreign oil! What do you think? Why did they, and all the other automakers, stop production of this "miracle" car?

Anything that decreases the demand side of carbon fuel would meet the same fate.

In defense of some auto people, Lee Iacocca did help develop a pretty good electric bicycle (google the e bike) . He has also written encouraging visions of a better future for personal transportation.

The electric car you are talking about had a range of about 100 miles. But then someone comes along and says that's not enough it must be the same as a gas powered car. So it's like someone else is telling the buying public what they should want. A 100 miles daily would suit me perfect and the people who had the experimental electric cars LOVED them and were really p*ssed when they were taken away.

In Mexico city they are using vehicles powered by compressed air (google compressed air car). Here's a typical hit: http://www.theaircar.com/howitworks.html

There are probably many, many ways to power a car other than gasoline but the oil boys don't want them. And in some ways, I guess, you can't blame them. If you spent a lot of money setting up a donut shop and this was threatened by a bagel fad you would probably be shouting, "Down with Bagels" and then make up as many reasons, silly or serious, why Bagels shouldn't be sold. This is a bad example, but you get the Idea.

That video is filled with lies and misinformation.

My God! It's like a Michael Moore documentary.

Truth is the business world would love an electric car. The Chinese would love an electric car. etc. etc. The American oil companies have little influence throughout the coummunist world and they could have produced an electric car.

If you check with GM their web site provides lots of good information on their work with electric cars and they explain why they stopped their version of the electric car.

So the state of technology is simply we need a better battery if the electric car is going to be practical. And it looks like we are closer to that reality today than we've ever been.

If you do the research you will find that the electric car is as old as the internal combustion car itself. Oldsmobile had a production model electric car before 1900. Edison had his team develop many theories and prototypes but because he was best friends with Henry Ford he put the brakes on all development. It is possible Edison found a way for electric cars to out perform the primitive gasoline model ones and killed it to save his friend the competition.

Don't you see though? Electric cars would be discriminating against blind people, because they would never hear you coming.
