What are some unlikely collaborations you can think of? Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss first come to mind...not something I would have expected.

Rick James & Neil Young. They were in a rock band together for a short while in the 60s. (The Mynahbirds)

I guess in retrospect it makes sense, but Cyprus Hill and Sonic Youth tripped me out when I saw they did a song together (great tune too).

I bet I can do better, but I'll have to get back to it.

If you count live performances I saw at a benefit Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt, Eddie Vedder and Ani Difranco (among others) performing Innocent When You Dream together to close the show. Probably doesn't count but I did take notice of what an odd ensemble it was at the time.

Also that grouping that did London Calling when the Clash were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a trip (I think it was Costello, Dave Grohl, Springsteen, the bass man from No Doubt and I don't remember who was drumming). I generally don't watch that type of stuff, but I'm glad I just happened to be flipping channels when it happened. It was pretty cool, good rendition.

Great call on the Mynah Birds Fonzie. I can't believe I forgot about them. Great choice.

Nothing ever came of it but the r&b artist Aaliyah stated several times in interviews that she would love to work with Trent Reznor. She passed before there was any real talk of a possible collaboration, but that would of been interesting.

Bjork and Thom Yorke of Radiohead. They're both alternatives, but I did not see that coming at all.

Almost forgot, Tom Petty and Axl Rose... this was just weird

but the scariest part is I didn't even notice Tom had stopped singing and Axl was singing till the "I'm a bad boy...."

How about Frank Zappa and Tina Turner? On "Overnight Sensation", there's a song called "Montana", and Tina Turner can be heard singing about dental floss. Her voice was speeded up, and she's not mentioned on the album cover due to contractual stuff.

Tori Amos & Maynard James Keenan singing Muhammed My Friend. Unexpected, but it pretty much rocks.
