British Columbia First Nations History & Background
“Aboriginal” is a collective name for the indigenous peoples of Canada and is used to refer to the original or 'First' peoples of this land and their descendants. The term is used in the same way that the term 'Native Americans' and 'American Indians' is used to denote indigenous peoples in the U.S.A. On occasion, the term 'Native Canadian' is also used to refer to an Aboriginal person in Canada.
