Tex, I do realize that they come from different eras but was just asking who desreves it more. I didn't mean to be unfair but only wanted to know how other folks felt about it. George Jones gets my vote because of his time in the business and at a time when the hardships were many and the road to stardom was much more difficult. I know this has nothing to do with his music but he also is a former Marine so he gets extra points from me just for that.

I completely agree with Tex on this one. George Jones has been around much longer. He had a lot more time to make music than George Strait. Personally, I like Strait better.

Well it's not fair putting George Strait up against someone like George Jones. They are from two different era's in country music. Jones was the king back in the 70's 80's Now Strait is the King of this era. Both are from Texas. So either is fine with me. Both have had numerous amounts of #1's. But I still say it's not fair to put them against each other and make us decide which one is King and which one isn't.
So my ruling is...Texas is big enough to have Two Kings. Strait and Jones.
That's fine, I understand.. but you can't ask a Texan to pick between two Icons in country music especially if their from the state of Texas. I just stated my Opinion I know it means nothing except to other fellow Texans. Now Put George Jones up against Toby Keith,Tim McGraw or anyone else thats not from Texas...And i will say George Jones all the way.

George Strait. He has had over 50 #1's and will probably have more. George Jones can't say that.

I would say George Jones. He's lived a very hard life & has been what his songs are about. George Strait is= well, straight & narrow. He's too squeaky clean. George Jones is the mascot of country music, IMHO!

I think that they both deserve it. Jones for obvious reasons but Strait because in this day of country that is not country he has stayed true to the roots of country music. He doesn't just talk the talk he walks the walk.

George Jones. Didn't he once bill himself as the greatest country and western singer ever. I think that pretty much says it all.
