It's really kind of funny in a twisted sort of way, but any one have some real advice? My friend has her 17 year old cousin for the next few months, he has only been living in her house for a week and a half...but the odor is driving her mad.

She invited me over for coffee, and we went to put his clothes away and his room smells like old shoes and DORITOS. Is there anything she can do to fight this without offending him.

She did check and he has brand new shoes, she put fabreze in them...and any fabric she could find, opened the windows to air out the room. Despite alll this the whole room still has that smell, and it's starting to creep down the hall.

He showers...and has new shoes. I'll tell her about the socks. And I've sat next to him in the car, and I did not smell anything. But the room....wow.

Maybe she should get him a welcome basket for the bathroom with body wash, anti-persperant/deodorant, shave gel, etc. Another thing is that she needs to make sure that if he is doing his own laundry that he is doing it properly. My step-daughter tends to leave her clothes in the washer too long and instead of re-washing it she just throws it in the dryers so her and her clothes always smell musty. We have tried telling her not to leave the clothes in too long because it makes them smell bad.
If he is showering he might not be doing laundry often enough and as the dirty clothes sit on the floor the smell gets into the carpet. Maybe she needs to make sure that he has a dirty clothes hamper and ask him to put the dirty ones in there and use the carpet foam. You just spray and the foam goes away leaving a nice scent.

As a mother of two teenage boys, it seems that their feet smell like a landfill all the time!!! Try getting a odor elminiating spray such as Oust or Odor Ban and spray. Make sure he has plenty of clean socks, and he USES them. Try placing the shoes (without him knowing) outside at night to air. And try introducing him to a foot powder for athletes. Good Luck

My older brother is the same way. Its probably his feet! She should get him some foot powder and put some in his shoes. He needs alot of socks to. She could try getting an air freshner and putting it in his room.

nothing to worry. the boy may be suffering from fungal infection. till this cured the smell cannot be overcome. therefore ask him to get treatment for that. no point in using scent and perfumes. if you use perfume without curing the cause there will not be any effect.

His sheets need washing more often. If you spray white vinegar in his shoes, it will take away odor.
