No, I think that's a myth started by less intelligent people who want to find fault with geniuses in order to feel better about themselves. As Red_F said above, there's little or no correlation between intelligence and common sense. There are geniuses with a lot of common sense and some with very little, just like the rest of the population.

Not all have common sense just like the general population.
Common sense has little to do with intelligence, it is how you are raised. I have known people that were dumb as a brick but had great common sense and I have also known people that were amazingly intelligent that were lost with the simple things.
It's about learning from life experiences more than anything else. Some people just lead sheltered lives and have no common sense.

No i think that some geniuses focus on some things so much that the common things seem to escape them. So it appears that they do not have common sense but actually the common things hold no intrest.

**grins sheepishly**
I was sent to a psychologist for my learning difficulties in school, and he discovered at that point that I'm academically a genius.
Not only do I lack common sense, but I lack virtually every other mental sense out there. I've got conceptual understanding. It's like one of those video games where you dish out a set number of points to different attributes.
I gave every last point to conceptual understanding. No social sense, common sense, memorization, visualization, nadda. But I do damn well in chemistry class.
**smiles** On a more serious note, I'm very sensible in very specific circumstances. Virtually all of my interactions with people, things, books, etc, are purely analytical, logical... all mental. Thus, things like college classrooms (as opposed to the more social-based elementary school) I excell in, whereas social situations I fail. There are simply too many variables to understand in a timely fashion. I'm not permitted even 30 seconds to process the possible meanings of a person's statement. In order to be social, my response needs to be instantaneous. Yet, for any given statement, coupled with different body reactions, it could mean hundreds of things. I try to analyze each possibility to see what is the most probable... but as you can imagine, I either A take too long and look like an idiot, B hastily go with my first impression (which is literally random) and 90% of the time be wrong, or C devote 100% of my mental ability to analyzing their reactions as quickly as possible. Which means, I'm barely decent at judging them, but then stammer, say bizarre things, and just sound idiotic.
In short? People think in different ways, some of which cannot adapt to "normal" human behaviour.

Most geniuses have no common sense because they're taking in with their genius.

Nope. I'm a genius (sounds pretentious, I know) and I have plenty of common sense.
But let's define common sense, shall we? Is it really so common? Do more people possess it than not?
I think that when most people are discussing this, they're addressing strictly "Social Faux Pas" Yeah, it's true that geniuses tend to be less sociable, and more inclined to independent seeking and inquiry. Sharing their insights sporadically with those close to them, and are always slight eccentric and 'abnormal.' But normal is not something people should aspire to be. Being normal means that you just accept things as they are, and don't try to change them. That's the standard definition of normal. A typical, ordinary citizen who doesn't rock the boat.
So no, we have plenty of sense, none of which is common, and we enjoy the world slightly differently than most, and we try to change what we observe as inherently flawed or unrealistic.

I don't think that is true. I'm a genius and I believe I have lots of common sense. I slept with 15 guys last month and now I'm pregnant. I'm not sure who the father is and I'm not sure why none of these guys have asked to marry me yet.

I don't know perhaps it is just a misnomer, then again if they're truly genius, they may be in such a state, as if they were in another dimension, that yes they are or could be out of touch with the environment around them perhaps not common sense, perhaps bordering insanity.
