For the last 5,000,000 years we have been in an Ice Age Era, moving from glacial (approx. 80,000 yrs) to interglacial (20,000 yrs.) periods. This known as the Milanovitch Cycle. Land in the North is rebounding back up from having been depressed by enormous glaciers of the previous glacial event.
Remember, to every action their is an equal and opposite reaction-- that would mean that the land at the equator would have bulged as a reaction... and so it too would now be resettling. It can be surmised that in its final stage, the rebound would escalate-- that would mean earthquakes (especially under the sea) and tsunami's at a faster rate and with greater severity. With all that activity under the sea (friction), you would have warming which of course, would then move to the atmosphere-- torrential rains, floods and hurricanes. Hmmm. The next phase would be tonnes of snow!
Mankind has reduced forests, and glacial events do again as much. Forests provide the air we breath!!

I am an optimist... and a realist, so let me add this: in the year 2000, I was in a car accident where the double reiforced steel doors of my VW and side air bags saved my life.
So, if there are precautions that we can take to prevent a 'worse case' scenario in a vehicle accident, then the same can be said of being able to sidestep the various other 'bigger' Nemesis' that are bound to threaten our world somewhere down the line.
I personally think that technology is a wondrous thing, and that it will one day save us... even though it 'appears' as though it is the big culprit around global warming (which, as I have explained above... is not the case... that is not to say that we should not deal with this issue).
So, my logical mind simply asks-- what would give us that 'cushion of safety'? I have ideas on this, but I am only one person, and I believe very much in the power around the use of many minds-- brain storming... and I guess that is why I am putting this out there.

Here is my idea... actually it is based on NASA research... one that was proven successful, and one that we can build on.
We build 'terranium' style homes/large centers. That's right-- we fully encapsulate ourselves in a clear bubble of sorts. Within this 'mini world' we plant trees/shrubs and whatever is needed that will provide air and food (we keep the balance). To do this, we may need to rely on genetic manipulation of plants to give us all that we need in a small space. This type of new home would help prevent a slew of travesties that could plague us-- in the event of a muliple astroid hit for one (didn't that wipe out the dinasaur); and then their is glacial events-- great sheets of Ice and Drought everywhere else-- this type of home would be useful here as well (especially this one coming up which would leave us that much more in need of oxygen thanks to our great involvement in the last few thousand years-- involvment that changes everything.
This could feasibly be done
