American and I have a half sister whose father is from Sudan (arabic speaking, East Indian similar facial feature but Sudan is in Africa) does that make me a African-American by association?

So then why do people think I'm a Black American? Our mother is Brazilian. Maybe since she's dark skinned they just assume this?

So according to what Mr318 is saying, I am a Black American? I guess maybe I can say I'm an African American too then?

So then a lot of Caucasians in the US should say that they are Black/African American as well, am I correct?

I'm not sure what that means, but it does sound like you're pretty to look at :-)

In response to the last part of your question...

Brazilian isn't a race, but an ethnic group. In fact, there are more Brazilians with black blood than Americans (percentage-wise).

I knew a guy from Brazil who said he wasn't black back in college. He looked like Kevin Garnett, the NBA player but shorter.

I was like 'WTF'? But then again, many minorities in the U.S. push their 'ethnic' group first above race. Hey, it's their right.

Brazil had a history with the trans-Atlantic slave trade like the U.S. and it shows if you ever visit the country.

No.

You can't claim your half brother and sister's parent's ethnicity.
