I haven't been to class recently. The syllabus says "Everyone must show up for the final" and "The test with the lowest grade will be dropped". If I do not show up, i will get a 0, which will in turn be dropped. I'm really sick and it's freezing out, and I have to walk a mile to get to class, so If I can avoid going out I'd like to. The test is in an hour, and i know he won't check his e-mail before then, or else i'd e-mail my professor. What does everyone think, is it safe for me to ditch?

This isn't the final. This is just a test.

I'm not missing the class because I don't know the material. Currently I have an A. I want to miss because I have a cold and its 30 degrees outside plus wind chill. I don't have a car and I need to get better soon as I have way more important things to do this week that take a test that is going to be dropped anyway.

You could always call your professor in his office to ask about this particular situation. Most professors I know put their office phone number on the course syllabus that they hand out the first day of class.
I guess, if you ditch the test, then you KNOW that will be your lowest grade. I just hope you KNOW you'll do well on all the other tests this semester.

No, do your best. I know that you feel you are caught in a catch 22, but the rules pretty much spell themselves out-first you must take the test. You have to have a score to drop the test. No matter what, however, always do your best, because at the end that is what will count. I don't know you, Katie. All I have seen is the little picture of you, but I want you to do well and succeed! Be the best you can be and when you get there, reach even higher, as Icarus did, because unlike him, the light will not melt your wings.
Knowledge is the wind that carries up aloft, so we can aspire to ever greater heights.
If I could, I would be there with a cup of chicken soup for you. since I can't, all I can do, is tell you to do as the Syllabus says. You have to be at the test. Try to get a ride, if you can, and Email me. Tell me how you did, okay?
Remember, I'll be thinking of you. Good luck.

Respectfully, the last hour isn't the time to ask for help (I can't believe that you spent the time typing the question, rather than head toward class!).
Go to class. Bring lots of tissues. Sit as far as possible from everyone so they don't catch what you have. Take the test.
And, even if you have an 'A', you are disrespecting the professor if you "haven't been to class recently", and haven't let him/her know the reason. If it was for a valid reason, there was every possibility that he/she would have given you special consideration, especially if you have an 'A' (on the other hand, if I were your prof, and if it's a "cake" course, then there's no way that I would give any "outs"!).
Next time, think about it, sooner, and don't rely on strangers' opinions. It's YOUR life! YOU have to make the decisions that will affect you now and in the future! What are you going to tell your future boss on the day of an important presentation? Are you going to send a message to "Yahoo Answers" hoping some newb tells you the best thing to do???
Gesundheit!

Are you sure that the final is dropable? Some professors do not allow the final to be dropped. Some do. However, going in and taking the test is the best choice. It kind of makes professors mad when students skip their tests. You may need the professor to be on your side later on when deciding grades or a curve or something.

Go ahead and ditch it. Of course, the professor may have rules about ditching altogether and then not allow you to drop that test score because you didn't actually take the test but ditched the class. The professor may also make you take a make-up exam anyway.
Nice state of education to allow you to drop a lowest score.

I dont think the guests are the ones in need of an IQ test.. Mayb a couple of the regulars and a few of the viewers, specially the ones who continue to watch the show even though they think it sucks! Marmalade really needs a humour test these days, does he write his own stuff or what? And Sammy, well he makes the show work but no matter how many face lifts he has, his body is literally "breaking" down on him.. and his mouth is starting to cost him a fortune!

I'd go anyway. You might do better than you think and since you never know what the circumstances around future tests are going to be, your taking this exam anyway is kind of insurance in case you do worse later on.
Also, I don't know what kind of class it is, but if it's one of those classes that gets harder as the year goes on, you might regret skipping this test for later, harder ones.
