To preserve a carved pumpkin-
When you carve the pumpkin, make sure that after you are done cleaning your pumpkin etc. rub a thin layer of Vaseline on the carved part, on the edges etc. after you've done that carefully put the pumpkin in a plastic bag and if the weather of the area where you live is cool, than you can leave it outside- if the weather where you live is warm or hot- refrigerate the pumpkin. You can put a bag of ice inside the pumpkin to keep cool inside, just make sure that it's completely water proof and no water gets on the pumkin.
To rejuvenate a carved pumpkin-
Soak the pumpkin in water for 8 hours, drain for 1/2 hour & let it dry.
The whole point of keeping your pumpkin looking fresh is by keeping your pumpkin hydrated & moist- if you let it dry, it'll rot & shrible.
I'm having a Halloween party on the 27th- & yesterday night my husband & I carved 2 of the pumpkins already- since we have alot of work in our hands with decorating etc. we decided to start getting the pumpkins ready, we have more to carve, so we started a week early. That's the way we preserve the pumpkins if we are carving them more than 3 days ahead of when they are going to be in use.
To keep your pumpkin looking good while there's light inside, instead of using a candle- use a glowing stick or blinking light- which ever works for you- I personally don't recommend using candles because you'll have to make a hole on the top part- (a chimney) so the pumpkin wont burn inside, with a light or glowing stick, it last longer.
Try it- you won't be dissapointed.
I hope this helped.
Good luck & have a safe & Happy Halloween.

sook the punpkin in cold water. Then place a ziplock bag of ice inside the carved pumpkin. Change the ice bag out once a day. also use a LED pumpkin light not fire or a hot light bulb.

Keep the pumpkins a little thicker, meaning dont scoop or scrap as much on the inside of the pumpkin. Also dont let them freeze outside at night and warm up during the day. Have Fun.

Coat the pumpkins in a semi-gloss polyurethane and use small battery-operated lights as the light source. You can find them online or in any store currently selling pumpkin-carving supplies.
