I'm a big final fantasy fan and let me tell u, final fantasy 7 is the best u will every play (so far). the only things is the graphics aren't that good as of ffx because its on the ps1. but it has the best story line Ive ever seen in ANY game, tons of stuff to do in gold saucer, better characters to fall in love with. this game might make u cry at the end of the first disc. if u dont care about the ps1 graphics then u would love this game, but there is a few problems, u might not be able to find it anywhere and if u do find it, its gonna COST you. but its well worth it, this is the game that made squaresoft/square-enix the giant it is today.
by the way sephiroth is the best game character EVER.

Many people think Final Fantasy 7 was the height of the series, some just think it was pretty good. I like 6 myself, but 12 is pretty good too.
Like ALL Final Fantasy games their are differences between the two battle and magic systems.
In FFX the battle system is basically turned based, when it becomes one of your characters' turn everything stops and you give them commands. By default, FF7 doesn't wait for you, but keeps right on moving without you. (You can turn wait on as an option.)
The biggest difference is in the skills and magic system. In FFX you had the grid, in which anyone, given enough obsessive effort, could learn and use EVERY skill in the game. FF7 has a "materia" system. Materia are orbs that you buy/find/earn that contain the games skills, summons and spells. You equip the orbs into your character's weapons and armor, and as long as the have the orb, they can use the power. There are AP, but those go to the orbs, not the characters. If you level up an orb, you can give it to another character and it maintains the level.
This means anyone can do anything at any time in FF7, just not all at once. You can not switch materia in battle, so some pre-planning is necessary.
Also the characters in FF7 are not specialized; while some are better at figthing or spells than others, the differences are not huge. Everyone, for example, does equally well against flying creatures in FF7; you don't have to slot in the equivalent of Wakaba to hit them. You also can not switch characters in battle.

I've been playing Final Fantasy games since FF 4 on the SNES and I have played and own every single one of them, including all the PS1 compilations and the updated FF 3 on the DS. I just have to say that Final Fantasy has no bad games, I love all of them, but they do have differences. I loved FF X great graphics and story, but I missed the free roaming aspect of the previous games. FF VII and FF VI are my 2 favourite FF games. FF VII is a phenominal game. It's got everything you would want out of a Final Fantasy title, great music, story, gameplay and excellent characters. But I can say the exact same thing about FF VI. If you want to play some classic RPG's pick up the FF Chronicles and FF Anthology compilations for the PS1. Chronicles gives you FF IV, another phenominal FF game and Chrono Trigger, my all-time personal favourite RPG. Chrono is beyond the perfect RPG its "Innovative Perfection". Anthology gives you FF V and FF VI, V is great but not one of my favourites, although it is a change because it focus's more on job classes and training. All of these games dont compare with X graphics wise, but it would be unfair to compare these games that way. So to me the best are VI and VII because they both have everything you could wish for from a phenominal RPG. If you dont really like the idea of playing a 16-bit game, just try it honestly you will not be disappointed.
Hope I Helped!!

Final Fantasy VII is very, most of the hype around it is because it came out on a new console, the playstation. Just like some of the hype around X because it came out on the ps2. If you don't mind the graphics you should get it. Both games are good but I like X the best not just because of the graphics or being able to play blitz ball but because the ending doesn't leave you with a What just happened look on your face.

FFVII IS THE BEST!!! but it's pretty much even compared to FFVIII. lol.
yes. it made history for being one of the greatest game story lines in the world, with lots of secrets and treasure to be found! the battle system is a whoooolleee lot easyer than the normal battle system you'd find on most games, and once again, the storyline is unbelieveible.
compared to FFX it makes FFX look like crap. but FFX is still one of the greatest..

FFVII was better than FFX. If you're willing to put up with the terribly outdated graphics, it's a fantastic game. Probably not the best final fantasy title, though.

7! Squall was way too emo and I couldn't stand the whole draw magic thing on 8. The whole love theme felt more foreign than the other games. You junction and equip magic to stats and then you can't even use it unless you want to lose your stats! That witch boss was lame, too. I've owned 8 since the day it came out. I played through it once and haven't given it a second thought. FF7 is in my all time top 5.

I think final Fantasy VII has best storyline ever, but it's very deep storyline, you have to play Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII : Crisis Core, and watch Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children, for more complete story play the Final fantasy VII : Dirge of cerberus and read wikipedia ;)

D: all final fantasy games have prety graphics, you can't say their outdated when you compare them with the other games, look at final fantasty III for example, I can think of plenty of less-pretty games on the SNES.
