Continue to work at your best - if they need help (I know it sounds contrary) help them - somebody will be watching. Even when we are sure we are alone, someone is watching - but don't forget - make sure your job comes first, do the best you can - you will be known by your workmanship.

One other little truism (meant to be funny, but I'm not sure) --

----------------- "No good deed goes unpunished."

But help them out anyway - they'll love you for it (mostly), the bosses will see it, you'll get promoted, and then you can "encourage" them to work.

OR you can always quit and get another job (of course, it could be just the same stuff, different employer). Good Luck!

First, you need to ask yourself what is your value to the organization. Sales? Clerical? Technical? What? What drives the bottom line in your case? If you're in sales and there are tangible results to your hard work, then re-work your incentive package. Get a piece of the action or at least try to....if there is none to be had, try MONSTER.com or Career Builder.com.

If others are truly doing nothing then cream will rise to the top. However, if you're making 3 copies to their 1, don't expect the boss to think that is all that great if there are salesmen pushing 10 Million per year. In other words, you again need to self-assess and ask yourself: "What do I provide that others don't?" Hard work is not about just being the 'busiest' or having the most phone messages....it's about results....there are no free lunches or handouts....you must EARN it.

Good Luck or Happy Hunting

You are getting paid for a service and how you do your job. You can like yourself for doing your best. It is not up to you but your employer to decide whether these people do a good job or not. I know it is frustrating to you that these people get paid and do little work but all you need to worry about is what you do. I would be sure that I did not do their job as well though. They get paid as well as you and if you do their job too then they are getting away with it and the employer does not know. This would be the only time I would complain is when I was doing more then my work and having to do theirs too. As long as you are only doing what you are being paid to do and not doing the other persons job too then I would do nothing and say nothing. The employer will know sooner or later.

I worked in the same situation for 3 1/2 years. The other person who did absolutely nothing was fired. The Management eventually saw through her little scams. They rewarded me for my hard work when they got rid of the dead weight. I was ready to look for another job. But patience came in handy that time. I am now the office manager, and she is working part time for someone who felt sorry for her. Word has it she won't be there long. They have seen right through her. She is lazy, lies, steals, falsifies records and is a master manipulator. She worked harder at not working than what the job required of her in the first place.

This is exactly the topic that kills me when thinking about it. I believe its a major problem in america and a constant debate. Working harder than others, or working less than your fellow employees, is just a loose loose situation, either way you wont get the results you would hope for. If you have a job I guess the best thing to do is just go with the flow. Speaking from experience if you want to keep the job, just grin and bear it, dont try to stand out either way dont work too hard dont work too little, just balance it out nice and easy. I know its boring but its the American way, sadly.

Green-ey then only 90 percent of the work gets done. Where is the other 10 percent? As for me I would keep on working as hard as I do, loafing on the job would drive me crazy. Only time I complain is when I'm on that 24 hour shift and haven't had much sleep in a month. I get cranky when I get tired.

It happens everywhere and have you noticed how they get away with it..The reason they get away with it is because everyone including the boss, knows they are lazy gits who do very little and so nothing more is ever expected of them. Sadly for those who DO work hard, more is expected from them as they have proved they can and will do things. It isn't right or fair but that is the way it is. Sometimes I really think the ones who sit on their bottoms doing bug all have the right idea. All you can do is do your best and sod the rest.

Work as hard as you can to move up without messing anyone else up and then make sure that you are taken care of first, then try to help those that would take the help. If you are doing the job of others and they no longer want to do anything, things will always naturally work out for the best.

I work at a new company. I was hired in at the very beginning of things. Well, there was originally three of us. But, things were not as busy and stuff so they ended up firing the other two people, and keeping me. I even got a raise. Just hang in there. If it really bothers you though, find a new job. LIFE IS WAY TOO SHORT TO BE UNHAPPY!

Good luck!

If you feel that you work very hard and you are not getting enough appreciation / attention compare to others who works less then you.. then you are in not right direction.

This is the time for you to work smart and not hard. Sometimes taking too much burden on your shoulder or taking too much work increases your possibility of making mistakes. By doing little less then your ability will give you room for improving the quality of your work.

Understand your work culture and understand when you have to show off a little bit and when you have to really perform.

And always carry a smiling face at your work place.
