Mine was:

James Hetfield
Kirk Hammett
Cliff Burton
Lars Ulrich

not to mention that Rob is also an awesome bassist. I used to think Jason was the best choice, until i was told that he wasnt that good a bassist, and that he used to play Nothing Else Matters as well with a pick. And, i was also told that Rob is an awesome bassist, and that he wrote the song Frantic. Now thats not bad haan.

See, if St. Anger didnt work out, people shouldnt blame Rob for joining the band and then the band started to suck, its not him, its the band as a whole. and btw, he wrote Frantic, which was a pretty good song.

So after telling me your favourite Metallica Line Up, also mention whether Rob is the perfect choice, or was Jason better?

it has to be
cliff

i mean they made master of puppets and ride the lightning 2 of the best albums ever, Robert is a far better bassist than Jason but!!!!! Jason is far more like your average metal head kid

the reason the band sucks now isn't because of who they have at bass, if you've seen some kind of monster i think the answer is plane enough, they went from some lower middle class youths with a chip on their shoulder, to a bunch of limp-wristed milk-sop sissies, and the music shows it

how do you go from a band that had lyrics like "die by my hand i creep across the land killing first born man", to "do you hear your baby cryiying" and that is why justice was the last album i have ever bought from them

My favorite lineup is Hetfield, Hammett, Ulrich and Burton. After ...And Justice For All, Metallica went from my favorite band to an afterthought. The Black Album was ok, but it wasn't a Metallica Album, and the crap they released after that (Load, ReLoad, St Anger) well, you get the picture. I don't blame the bass player, as Rob Trujillo is a phenomenal bassist. I've seen him a few times with Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves, and he played some sick solos. I think the band isn't as tight as they once were, and they all are thinking differently in terms of direction, and try too hard to be what they once were.

With Jason, defiantly. Followed very closely by Cliff. The reason Jason played (almost everything) with a pick, is that was the way he learned to play. When he learned to play the bass, he didn't have a amp so he used a pick so he could hear the notes he was playing. That being said, he *was* a more technical player than Cliff or Rob because of it. And he sang a hell of a lot better than either of them as well. That boy just wanted to ROCK!

As much as I'd love to blame Rob for St Anger, it wasn't his fault. The whole band was trying to hard to be something they aren't anymore. And it showed through.

Cliff was far better then either of the others. I have had a love hate with Metallica since "the black Album". Even with that, I still had much respect when I would see them live. THAT MOVIE did them in. I have lost anything I had left for them. Actually, I really liked St. Anger. I thought it was the album they should have released after Justice..... Just my opinoin!

The lineup has to include Jason Newsted, Lars, James ,and Kirk. Even Garage Inc sounded good with that line up.
St Anger was a joke!

James Hetfield
Kirk Hammett
Cliff Burton
Lars Ulrich
That's Metallica
Jason Newstead was better, I think, as a replacement for the Unreplaceable
