C = 2 π r
r = C / (2π )
r = 42 / 6.28 ins
r = 6.69 ins (to 2 dec. places)

The spoke of the eel is the radius
circumference = 2 pi r
2 pi r = 42
r = 42 / 2 pi = 21/ pi

Circumference (C)= 2 x pi x radius (r)
Therefore r = C/2 pi
= 42/(2 x 3.141592654)
= 6.7 inches

the formula for circumference is: C=2(pi)r
look at your given and what you are looking for:
given: circumference = 42 in
need: length of spoke (radius)
so plug in the circumference
42= 2(pi)r
divide both sides by 2(pi) to get the r by itself
42/2(pi)=r
r=6.68 in
