I'm not officially putting my vote in for him, but I think that no one will ever love John Mayer as much as John Mayer does. And it's obnoxious.
What musician's attitude really gets to you? Do you think their high opinion is deserved? Does their attitude cloud your opinion of their abilities or the importance of their achievements?

lovnrckets - from what I gather he is, and he has pretty much said the same. The thing that got me the most was not only did he think he could (very smoothly) transition into stand-up comedy, but one of his jokes was referring to some women as "sluts" and commenting on how easy it is for him to "unlock their Masterlocks". I'm still perplexed by that.

Hi Prof! You're right - sometimes it's easier to take if they can be funny about it.

I think Fred Durst is one of the most pretentious singers out there. He has a bad voice, yet thinks he's the most talented singer to ever grace the music world. He just irks me.
Edit - Scott Stapp is another one that comes to mind.

The first answer that came to me was Axl Rose. Granted GnR was the biggest band on Earth for awhile, but if he thinks he can disappear for 15 years and come back with an entirely different band and have the same kinda success, he's very mistaken. I have a feeling that he thinks GnR is just as big as it was 15 years ago, and that we're all just on the edge of our seats waiting for the next album. We were for awhile, but I think most fans pretty much consider the group broken up, even if they aren't technically. Axl is the only remaining member, and while he is a key factor in the band's sound, it just ain't GnR without Slash and Duff. Axl isn't even a good live performer.
I'd have to agree with Liam from Oasis being pretty arrogant. Just 1 album into their career, he was comparing Oasis to The Beatles. Just because you WANT to be The Beatles, doesn't mean you are. He also thinks he can get stoned and drunk off his as$ and still put on a good live show.
Fred Durst is pretty arrogant. He seems to think that the whole world is in love with him and Limp Bizkit, when both are really just a joke.
lovnrckets had 2 answers that I initially disagreed with, but the more thought I gave it, he's probably right. Trent Reznor is a musical genius, and though he often acts modest about it, I think he knows it. He does tend to rip on every other group out there, and gives the impression that anyone with an opinion that differs from his is an idiot. Also, Marilyn Manson seems to fire a band member on every album. Now he's basically gone solo. I think his vision and his leadership made Manson a great band, but unfortunately he thought the success was all him. He didn't give his own band members enough credit or enough respect. I don't blame Twiggy for leaving and I feel bad that John 5 was fired.

I'm gonna go for some old stuff here...Jack Bruce (from Cream) was always and still is an arrogant type as far as I know, and despite the fact that I love a lot of his music (the earlier stuff especially), Frank Zappa had to be up there, I've seen people mention Gene Simmons, but I've always thought there was an element of self-parody in his macho posturings...I could quite easily be wrong, though.

I did not know that about John Mayer but I'm not surprised. Who else ranks up there?
Oasis - Liam Gallagher is probably the biggest a@@hole in the industry. Him and the rest of them truly believed they were better than The Beatles.
Axl Rose - Clearly deluded enough to think that GnR could go on with only him and a bunch of nobodies.
Marilyn Manson - see above, but also factor in that he sees himself as above the law.
Trent Reznor - As much as I like NIN, I've never seen an interview of him where he isn't ripping on somebody or another band. Granted it's usually bands we'd rip on too, but I cannot defend the way he treats his fans. Once he stopped putting out great music, it will be too easy to forget about him.
Gene Simmons - Might be the most arrogant person on planet Earth.
Prof - Hey! I would have to put Billy Corgan right up there as well. Anyone who comes out with what amounted to a solo album yet tries to capitalize on his past success with the band name has to be an arrogant SOB.
MachPen - Not the great Mike Patton, say it isn't so! This man is the epitome of human perfection. There must be some mistake.

Well, there are rumors that Mike Patton is one of the biggest jerks in the music industry, but I've never met the guy, so I wouldn't know. (If you were Mike Patton, wouldn't you be?)
I agree with Prof - I would also imagine Billy Corgan to be a "prima donna" ... but of ALL musicians, I can say from personal experience that Phil Anselmo is an arrogant son'ofa...

Hi.
They've already been said, but I'm with Billy Corgan (I don't think I've seen someone exude pretentiousness the way he does) and Liam Gallagher, although he gets some points in his favor for being totally hilarious.
**************
Hey Lovenrckts. I totally agree. Not to mention his need for like 2,000 guitar tracks to convey his point. I get doubling and trippling (I worked in studios for a while and I know that stuff like that is taken for granted) but at some point you're just wanking.
Hi Sookie. If they're arrogant in a funny way it actually makes me appreciate them being egomaniacs. It becomes a whole new dimension to their fame. Sometimes the only thing that redeems it.
****************
Oh leave Bono alone. At least he's trying to do something positive with his celebrity. What a jerk, trying to feed all those poor people. God, where does he get off?

Elton John comes to mind. I've heard his queen persona isn't an act. Supposedly he's a nightmare to deal with.
Eddie Van Halen, obviously. Yes, you can play guitar well, Eddie...but not everyone has to bow down to you.
Anthony Keidis - if you ever read up on his fued with Mr. Bungle/Faith No More's Mike Patton...it's obvious that he has no sense of humor.

as much as it kills me to say this, axl rose
he is still going with guns n roses, as if he was the only important part of the band and people will love chinese democracy even though hes the only original member on it
its somewhat deserved, but not by any means to the extent he takes it
he acts like he was the heart soul and brain of the band and slash and the crew were just his background musicians who can be replaced.
and i think madonna is pretty self satisfied, and no, i dont think she deserves it. wearing funnels for a bra does not mean youre a great musician.
