I guess the reason why we call the earth, mother earth, probably stems from the Native Americans, and the belief that the earth (in a sense) gives birth to all living things and sustains life, just as a mother gives birth and sustains her offspring. In another sense, what you say about calling the earth, mother earth, becasue we treat it like trash is ironic because in the past the earth was respected, the people lived in harmony with the earth, instead of raping and destroying it. But in today's society, mother earth could be compared to a woman being treated disrespectfully because now the earth is polluted.

Let's hope you don't treat your mother like trash ( or anyone for that matter ).We call the Earth " Mother Earth " because it is all nuturing. Without earth, of course, there is no life.

Why would anyone treat their mother like trash? We call it mother because it's what takes care of us and what makes us grow. With out earth (trees, fruit, air, animals for those meat eaters) when we would die. With out a mother to take care of us as an infant we would starve and die.

Very serious point. Surely we don't call earth Mother because of the reason you cited... but yes we mostly don't end up respecting either earth or mother enough for all that they take and give.

well, it's because of the beauty of nature and the softness of the scenery (for the mkost part). It's poetic/figurative way of referring to the earth because of her yield.
people put seeds in the earth and she brings forth fruits. So they liken her to a woman.
They just compare the features that a woman has with that of nature/earth and they refer to it in figurative/metaphorical terms. it has nothing to do with the way a woman is treated. Woman where treated worse in those days than now. Yet, they call nature 'mother'.
hope this makes sense. Please don't get too creative with it.

Mother is the term for giving birth,
mother earth is credited with giving birth to all forms of vegetation, and life, if not physically, metaphorically, hence the term mother earth.

Being captivating and a large better half are actually not collectively unique. in fact, it relatively is purely as shallow to assume which you're greater appropriate off with an 'accepted' female by way of fact her character, loyalty and intelligence is going to be greater appropriate to that of a fantastically female. seem on the lot you get on the Jeremy Kyle tutor- grotesque as sin and morally inept!

In most languages all nouns are described as either male or female. Therefore -the earth is female. And since it is the bringer of life, and the nursery it is the mother.
