I don't claim to be an economics major. Was wondering though, if tax revenues are up, why are we trillions of dollars in debt?

I believe a majority of it is the contractors feeding from the trough. War profiteers in general.

No amount of tax revenue increases can keep up with republican deficit spending. 800 billion dollars wasted in Iraq and counting, and the National Debt doubled. Unbelievable.

because spending is through the roof, as you already know. the cons will also say that our military spending is only 4% of the GNP...which is true, however, dollar for dollar if you adjust for inflation, we are spending more now on the war in Iraq than we ever have on "defense" spending in the past . if congress gives Bush the 46 billion more he has asked for, Iraq will officially be the 2nd most expensive war in American history, just behind Vietnam.

Spending is way up (and not just on the war - Bush has spent more on non-military budget increases than any president since LBJ's War on Poverty began)

"we are spending more now on the war in Iraq than we ever have on "defense" spending in the past ."

Not even close to WW2 numbers, since you claim to adjust for inflation.
