A group that I used to go caroling with was driven off more than once by adults who said we were "disturbing the peace", so we no longer go caroling. I know that many carolers also avoid neighborhoods now because people have been attacked by homeowners' dogs. We never had problems with getting mugged since we travelled in large groups, though.

I remember when the carolers went through our neighborhood when I was a youngster. After the carolers were through singing, my mom invited them in (they were from our church) to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate & some cookies. (the cookie jar at our house was never empty) When I was a Girl Scout, I got to go caroling with my troop & had so much fun. We always went to the homes of the elderly in the neighborhood, first, so as to catch them before they went to bed. We often went inside for refreshments. (couldn't do that now) The elderly, especially, were so happy to see us.

They still do in my neighborhood. The older kids in the ward (church ward) get together for a hayride and ride through the neighborhood singing carols. We also have a day where Santa rides through the neighborhood waving from his sleigh on a truck. Then he goes to the neighborhood elementary school to take pictures with the little kids.

Yes, our high school choir went door to door singing Christmas carols, and also we went to the nursing homes, which was so fulfilling! A couple of years ago I tried to get some friends together to sing carols in the nursing homes, but couldn't get them interested enough in the idea. =( I would love to do that again!

We moved in next door to the high school media teacher in town. One Christmas Eve around 6 years ago the entire marching band and choir stopped in front of our teacher-neighbors house and played all kinds of Christmas caroles. It was amazing to me and my son. We are from Los Angeles county, where nothing like this ever happens... only in the movies! Heck! I'd pay them to come and carol.

I live in a one-story elderly and disabled complex. Churches still send carolers around. It's very sweet. Makes ya misty.

They still do it where I live. Mostly they use it as an excuse to get drunk and ride in the back of a farmer's cattle trailer, but hey. They do make sure that they hit all their family/friends and each invalid/shut in/elderly person in the town. I've went with them a time or two and it's actually pretty fun.

We even used to go as children unaccompanied by adults in our neighborhood- everybody's parents would watch out for All the kids back then and everybody knew everybody and this wasn't a small town either. It was just a different world.

was a lot of fun to go caroling and when there were other caroling groups to try to outdo the others in ( mostly ) friendly competition.
