The mc I had on Sat. night has been on my mind non stop. I looked up Fenugreek during pregnancy and read that it can cause mc because it causes your uterus to contract and the placenta and uterine lining can begin to shed causing the baby to not get oxygen and nutrients anymore. I feel terrible because I was taking it everyday to increase my milk supply because I am breast feeding my 6 month old. I stopped taking it when I found out I was pregnant but I didn't know I was until I was about 8 weeks along. The ultrasound shows that the baby stopped developing at 8 weeks so by the time I stopped taking it, it was already too late. Has anyone had this happen? Has anyone else heard of causing a mc from taking meds that you weren't supposed to take while pregnant. I feel horrible!

Just to let you know I am a lactation consultant and I routinely advise patients to use fenugreek to increase milk supply. Fenugreek is listed in the US as a GRAS herbal (Generally Regarded As Safe). There is a minor stimulant effect on the uterus but not strong enough that it would be ill advised in early pregnancy. I feel very confident that it did not cause your miscarriage. It is was the stimulant effect that had cause the mc it would simply have expelled the fetus not caused it to stop growing. Usually when a fetus stops growing it is a developmental defect.

Also just to put your mind at ease I looked at fenugreek in Medications and Mothers Milk by Thomas Hale. Hale is the worldwide expert in hoe medications affect mothers during pregnancy and lactation. He says " No untoward effects reported in early pregnancy, Its use in late pregnancy may not be advisable ".

Sweetie stop blaming yourself.

Hi
I am a 25 year old mother of 2 boys ages 2 and 4. I also have two step daughters ages 12 and 13. The 13 year old lives with me. My husband and I lost our first child he was stillborn full term baby. It took me months to get over it I had to see a psychologist. I couldn't understand why it happen to me. Now I realize why, it was the hospitals fault so we ended up receiving money not much because in the state of Texas the baby has to take a breath of air or it is still considered a fetus. I remember the day in time as though it was yesterday. But I now understand that I was not ready to raise a child at that age. Remember everything that's bad in your life God turns it into something GOOD. We always wonder way us God gave his only son for our sins so why not us. Be thankful that you have your health and strength and your able to take care of your other child.
God bless you

You can never be sure that is what caused the mc. Please enjoy your baby and don't let this get you down. As far as the 8 weeks goes, could just coincidence and not the medication. Either way do not blame yourself because ther really is no way of knowing and it's not like you purposely took something knowing you were pregnant. Bless your heart. I sincerely hope all goes well for you.
