It means that the big corporations are putting pressure on the conservatives to keep gas around till we run dry. Ethanol would put all the rich corporation guys out of buisness.

Subsidizing it means that the government is paying them to produce ethanol. Ethanol can be used to replace a part of the gasoline in fuel used in cars, but it is more expensive to make fuel from it than it is to do it from oil.

Subsidizing means that the US government is paying the difference. Though, in effect this means that you still pay for it by taxes. Also, this subsidy makes raw materials cost more for other sectors which aren't subsidized.

What "subsidizing" means is that tax money is being diverted to artificially give the illusion of profitability for ethanol and make it look like products such as "E85" are cheaper, but they're not. They actually cost more per gallon than gasoline. However, most of that price is paid by you and me as "subsidies" from government.

It's a scam.

completely agree, think of all of the gasoline to capacity all those great tractors plowing harrowing, planting and harvesting corn to make that valueless ethanol, much less gasoline milage, 30 p.c. much less, and then value us greater for it. of direction it would not start to handle the quantity of gasoline we somewhat need.
