If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your laptop for normal stuff and not gaming. You got a good setup. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

Firstly, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"

Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs. Check the link to alter your virtual memory spec.

Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60-120% more resources and speed
if you follow the tips.

It seems too hard when you ask the wrong people, just right click on my computer then chose properties, then advanced then on performance chose Settings, unmark all of them except the last 3 ones
That's one thing it disable all the visual effects of windows XP
the other thing open display properties from control panel or by right clicking on any empty area on the screen then properties then chose settings then color quality make is medium (16 bit )

If that's all didn't help you will need to reinstall windows cuz it's just accumulated allot of junk files that needs to be deleted

And after that if problem still exists just remove the last part you've added

And try to change it for another brand cuz it might not be suitable for the other component and brands u have

You made a critical mistake! Memory of 120 GB is impossible! You mean you have increased your hardrive space to 120 GB??. Your RAM memory is infact extremely low (128 MB) and this is the reason why your computer runs so slow. Large harddrives and low memory don't match. Large hardrives use lots of available memory. You should increase your RAM to at least 512 MB (preferably 1 GB).

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".
Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!

you may have a virus or other mal- ware on your system. go to http://hitmanpro.nl and download and install Hitman Pro. Then RUN IT!!

also delete all your temp files and folders in Internet Explorer. While Explorer is open go to tools>internet Options. click on button that says "use default", that will change your home page back to the original one (usually MSN).
next, in the box that says temporary internet files, click on the box that says "delete cookies". this may take a long time, so go walk the dog or make a sandwich; but when you come back, it shold be finished. then, hit the button next to it that says "delete files..." place a check in the box that says "delete offline content", then click ok, it may take a little while, but not as long as the cookies. so play madden or FIFA or something and come back. (just joking).
this next step is really important, so be careful. click on the button that says "settings". click on the button that says "View objects". Look in the "status field. DELETE ANY item that has a status of UNKNOWN or DAMAGED. close Internet Explorer, and run Hitman Pro again. Then restart your computer.
If this doesn't help, I'm afraid you're going to have to backup all your important files and reformat and reinstall Windows, which will be a major hassle. good luck!

You mean you have increased HDD capacity. Memory is RAM and 128 is too less. Also if your earlier drive was severely fragmented and completely out of space, it could have lead to the slowdown. So besides upgrading the RAM, also keep the drives clean from clutter and keep frag levels under control for a fast performance.

You state that you only have 128 megs of ram, and that is nowhere near enough. XP needs at least 130 gigs to run correctly, not to mention all of the background services and processes, and anything else that you may have loading with Windows. I suggest you install at least 512 megs, a gig would be better.

Also, you should clean up what is loading when Windows boots. To do this, read the following.

To control what starts with Windows:

Click Start and then Run. (Vista – Start>All Programs>Accessories>Run). In the run box, type "msconfig" without the quotes and then hit "Enter". This will open the System Configuration Utility. Click the "Startup" tab. Now remove the check mark from any and all programs that you do not want to start or "boot" with Windows. Now click apply and then click OK.

You will need to restart your system. When the system starts you will see a box stating that you used the Config. utility, put a check in "Don't show this box at startup".

That should do it.

Do not remove any check marks from your security software. You want it to load with your operating system.

firstly there hasn't be a mother board with the slots that can acommodate 120GB neither a memory of that capacity. assuming that u r sayin 120Gb of harddisk and 128RAM, that's the reason yur pc is slow. try increase the ram aswell. cause defenitly the harddisk is too big for the ram.

You mean you have upgraded the STORAGE to 120GB, not Memory.
You need to upgrade your RAM (This is your Memory) to at least 512mb.

Run Disk Clean up and Disk Defragmenter - in the System Tools Menu.
