2 1/2 years ago I dropped my husband's wedding ring in the kitchen. I believe it is wedged behind the dishwasher, which is part of the center kitchen island. I tried to unscrew the dishwasher and pull it out, but I'm not a plumber and don't want to disconnect the pipes.
Hubby was not mad at all about the lost ring. We are very solid and stable in our 14 year relationship (married for 8). We both feel that a piece of jewelry does not signify the marriage. Eventually I bought him a new one. The original is plain gold band with an engraved inscription. The replacement is just a plain band. He does not wear his ring daily because of work.

Yesterday we had a plumber over due to our broken garbage disposal. I asked hubby to have the plumber pull out the dishwasher because in my heart, I know it's there. But hubby didn't ask the plumber. He said to just let it go. I just want to find that original ring! Is that being ridiculous?

EDIT: Some of you hit it on the head! Eventually the dishwasher will need to be replaced and if the ring is there-we'll find it then. He says I am feeling guilty for losing it and I'm making too much out of it.

Its not really a problem, but it sounds like you're making it into one. The way I see it... eventually you'll replace said dishwasher, retrieve it then! That way you don't mess up your kitchen or dishwasher you have now, or your marriage for that matter. Let it go and get it when you have the chance... Like if you're going to re-do your kitchen or if you're replacing the dishwasher. Other than that, enjoy that you have a solid relationship with your husband and that this is a minor bump in your mind.

Youre not being ridiculous. But as you said, it is jewelry and not the marriage. Since he had a new one ( and the old one had already been down there for over 2 years) he likely didnt see the reason for paying a plumber to extract the original. If it bothers you a LOT, then have a plumber out to get it.

Plumbers aren't cheap. Your husband may not have wanted to spend a lot of money finding something that you have already replaced. If and when the dishwasher gets replaced you can find the lost ring then. What will you do with it then. Probably put it away someplace where it will be forgotten. So in my opinion, give it a rest.

I think it's sentimental of you to try and find the original ring, especially since you seem to know where it's at. Go ahead and try to get it back, especially since there's a plumber around, but if your husband isn't too worried about it, then why should you?

If you get it back, great, if not, he still loves you, he's still your husband and jewelry or a piece of paper doesn't make him married to you, it's what he chooses to do.

My hubby probably would've had that dishwasher unplugged and out of the way that day looking for it. If a plumber was there, why not ask him, just for sake of knowing. I think he's silly for saying just let it go. It's still a symbol of your love and vows. Some men just baffle me.

Take the dishwasher apart and let your husband get a plumber to put it back together.

No, not at all. The ring has emotional significance to you. Hubby should have had the plumber pull it out, even if it is an unnecessary expense.

If it was me i woulda moved the dishwasher within days of dropping it, and would have gotten it back and not bought a new one. Your determikned to find it now so go for it, you'll feel alot better once u do, then u can let it go.

No you have to explain to your husband how much it means to you that he gets it back. Maybe have a plumber over when he is not home and, get it out. Wrap it up and give it to him for Christmas or something special.
It means a lot to you and he sees it as a piece of jewelry...sorry

It's there, you know it, he has a new one, is it really necessary to have the original one? Like you said you guys have a solid relationship, the ring is NOT going anywhere, trust me... next time, if it's an easy procedure, then yeah get it out, but don't be in such a hurry to do so.
