I'm sure you'll get many variations on the theme.

I personally haven't used Concrete/Mortar based stucco in 15 years. I use a Fiberglass based product. It applies the same; sets as well; and lasts as long; and can be finished the same.

Trowels; rectangular or pointed as Mortar is generally applied. You can use Mesh, but I don't always. Sweeping motions in various directions to affect texture; depth; etc.

Think of it like spreading cake icing.

Don't do an area that is too large to handle at time. Due to you may not in shape to use that trowel so much.
