In school (for the last week or so) we've had to give a moment of silence after each pledge of allegiance each day, and I began wondering exactly what are we having a moment of silence each day for and is it really a law that requires it to be done. (in my honest opinion i would like to know what i'm giving a moment of silence to.)

I've asked many people in my school and it seems like no one really knows 100%.

That moment of silence is there for students who wish to start their day with prayer or with just a moment of reflection.
It is yours to use as you wish just as long as you use it silently.

You're giving a moment of silence ( if you don't wish to pray)as a courtesy to your students that do.

Yes, Illinois has just started requiring a moment of silence to start each school day. You may pray or reflect or run through your mental to-do list.

Its done in most schools. It has taken the place of a school prayer. It is suppose to be for those who wish to pray.

I have lived in Illinois all my life and don't remember doing this in school.
It might be a school thing, do you know if any other schools do it?
