First, popular vote does not elect the president. The electors do. Electors are individuals chosen by the state you live in, and the process varies from state to state. The first cantidate to get 270 votes, the majority, is president. So, 538 individuals, divided by state, locked into voting for the party they register for, elect the president.
This is important and mandatory in a republic (yes, we are a republic, not a democracy), becuase, as an example, the media - spurred by big business which pays the bills, could so manipulate the facts about cantidates (omitting this, adding that) that they elect the president of their choice. That would be bad.
The electoral, or electors, are supposed to elect the preident based on sound facts, track records, and other factors. The public at large are not supposed to be in that process.
While an elector is under no obligation to vote the same as the popular vote (we once did not have a popular vote for president), often they wait for the popular vote to come in and will respect the will of the people, unless a compelling reason prevents that.
I am suprised constantly that even our president calls the United States a Democracy. Democracy is a terrible form of government. Democracy in action would be a lynching or a homeowners association. Democracy is where 51% of the people get to tell everyone else what to do... even if that means that you don't get to drive a truck and park it at your house. Democracy is called Mob Rule, and rule of the country is totally at the whim of the media.
We live in a republic.
Representative Republic is the only form of government that lasts generations... sadly, it eventually evolves into democracy just before monarchy then civil war.
Protect our country. Tell everyone we are a republic.

It is way too early to say. As far as so many people being convinced that it will be Hillary, I would be surprised if it is. Here is why. She consistently polls near 50% even though she has no actual opponent yet. She is only compared to a generic or possible opponent. Once the primaries are decided she will have a definite opponent.
The more clearly that opponent can define his views in contrast to hers the poorer her poll ratings will get. The only way I see Hillary getting elected is if there is a strong third party candidate that can draw from the Republicans. That is, after all, the only way Bill Clinton got elected. He never got more than 46% of the vote and most voters who would vote for Hillary would by far prefer to be able to vote for Bill instead.

Since we haven't even had the primaries yet, it would be a bit premature to pronounce a winner.
That being said, I think the country has rounded a corner, and we, as a nation, are waking up to the reality that fear-mongering and reacting out of fear rather than acting is a bad way to conduct business and yeilds bad results, and whoever is elected will have to operate within that political climate, and that makes me hopeful that whoever is elected will do a better job.
If the election were held today, it is highly unlikely that the Democrats would not retain control of Congress. Having had a taste of one-party control recently would normally make me hesitant about embracing that once again, but the Democratic party is so factionalized and hasn't had time to be corrupted at the national level yet, so that might not even be a bad thing within the confines of this political climate.

Last year I was listening to the late night radio talk show "Coast to Coast with George Noory",it's a radio show about aliens, people who say they have been abducted by aliens, government conspiracies, people who claim to be witches,Indian medicine men, well they had one guest on who was making predictions about the future and he said the next President was gonna be Hillary Clinton.
Right now she's leading in the public opinion polls and has raised the most most money than any candidate,it looks like she might win.

Rudy, not that he is my first choice. Hillary has a 49% "will not vote for" rating and that is unlikely to be overcome unless she benefits from a third party candidate like Bill did TWICE in which case she could win with far less than 50% of the vote.

The one elected by the majority of Americans just as those before. I will support who ever that is just as I have done before.

It looks like Hillary.
And Timberstone, the majority of American voters picked Gore in 2000, but Bush was selected. The majority of voters do not always decide the winner...the electoral college does.

Hopefully the one with the most experience and the one who will bring our troops home the fastest. I am a navy spouse and they are sending men who are trained to be on ships to afghanistan and baghdad. Many military people are ready for this to be over.

John Edwards should, but Hillary will. The republicans have had eight years, and I know that I'm not any better off than I was when he took office.
