The simplest definition of "organic" is "a compound that contains carbon". There's a bit more to the definition than that, but that's the basic high school level definition.

Water is not an organic compound. Each water molecule contains two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. In other words, no carbon. (I saw the most hysterical thing at a natural foods store the other day - a bottle of water labeled "organic water". I had to laugh.)

Anyway, knowing that water is inorganic, we add to that the fact that most living creatures are more than 50% water. Healthy human adults are approximately 62% water. Jellyfish are over 95% water. Water is the most abundant compound in living systems.

Therefore, water is the most abundant inorganic compound in living systems.
