I have five things plugged into my APC Surge Arrest. A lamp, a high-speed modem, a printer, a monitor and the Dell pc. There was some lightning last night and now everything comes on except the Dell pc. Why is this? I am so very angry. Is the Dell pc damaged or something? Pls reply ASAP

I plugged the pc directly into the wall outlet, pressed the on button and nothing! so when you say damaged, do you mean done for ever? need to buy new one?. There is oviously nothing wrong with the APC surge arrest because all the other things plugged into it are working.

All is not well. Is it possible that maybe a small compnent inside the pc is damaged without the motherboard being damaged? or is the whole pc ready to be dumped? I just bought this in july. I am really too upset to think straight. I'm sorry if I'm being a nag.

Oh the power supply INSIDE the pc may be gone. I get it now Oh ok. I hope that it will just be a case of replacing that. So doesn't ANYTHING on this earth protect against lightning?

Try plugging the Dell into one of the other plugs first. If still no power, the power supply may be bad on the Dell and sometimes when the power supply goes it takes the motherboard with it. I"ve seen it happen before. Good luck.

This could be a power supply problem. First thing to try is to either turn off the power switch that is located on the power supply. If your power supply doesn't have a switch, then just unplug it. Leave the power off for at least 15 seconds and then turn the power back on. If this cures the problem then all is well. If this doesn't solve you your problem then I would suggest having your power supply checked.

Try plugging your PC into the wall outlet by itself. If your PC is still dead, then it has been damaged by the lightning. Did you surge arrester have a guarantee ? If so, a call to them is next.

Does the fan on the power supply work when you turn it on? If no, then you prob have damage. Try unplug from APC, plug into outlet and try again.
