I may write about any topic; however, I MUST avoid hot button topics, such as Capital Punishment, Abortion, or The Iraq War. These are social issues that have no "solution" per se and require greater length to cover than the 10-pages assigned for this research paper. The Final Paper should be 2500 words (about 10 pages).

"The Philosophy and Motivation Behind the ACLU and its actions". (assuming that you are in the USA).
You can look at its actions having the 10 Commandments removed from public buildings, prayer removed from schools etc. Its actions have had a vast influence on laws and living in the US. East to write 2500 words on but could be controversial. If done well it would be worth getting published.

Some good current event topics would include:
The general decline in American education system.
The social effects of present American trends, so many youth today continuing in school and staying at home, not growing up and taking on productive jobs in society.
Lack of American financial preparedness, which has been measured in many ways: lowest ever savings rate, lack of general savings and excessive dependence on credit.
