That is actually one of my biggest pet peeves. If you have no intention of calling right back, don't say it. My sister is the worse of them all, lol.

Oops, I am guilty of that....but, wait a minute, I can explain! When I tell someone I will call them right back, I have the best intentions, I really do! Then something happens with the kids, it is dinnertime, bathtime, bedtime, and then it is after 10:00 pm...Most people don't want me to call them back that late, so I just decide I will call the next day. Life gets in the way, and sometimes it is a couple of days before I have responded. It isn't meant to be rude at all, and if I say that to any of my real friends, they COMPLETELY understand. Usually, they are in the same situation too, and have done the same thing!

I'm that friend you are talking about.
It's never nothing personal, I am just not a phone type of person. However, when I do have the titme to talk I will talk, and I often can go about a month without talking to my friends, and they already know it's nothing personal. If you can always pick up where you left off, then you are good.
On the other hand, if this happens EACH and EVERY time you call, and they NEVER call you first, and NEVER call you back, and NEVER communicate some other type of way (myspace, email, texts), then that friend may have a problem with you.

Yes I actually have a few friends that do that to me. And it ticks me off. When someone says I'll call ya right back i expect them to do so. Yes I think that it is wrong for someone to say yeah i'll call ya right back but never do.

all the time! is it right no... but life does get in the way sometimes and you just can't help it... I know I am one of those that say that... usually it is when my kids are fighting and what not.. it happens... but sometimes I don't call because I don't like to call people after 9 pm because they maybe sleeping or whatever... so I call the next day...

No, mine usually call right back unless something urgent
comes up. I have some friends, though, that I wish were
more like your friends. Perhaps, we should swap them out?
That way I can have some peace and quiet for a change.
Peace. And remember..life happens. Your pals mean well.

Yes !
I have a couple of friends that do that often, sometimes we are admist the conversation maybe something happens or they are in a bad mood they will say call me back.. but they don.. in the past sometimes i wait a bit for their call..
But i got used to it. sometimes I will tell them it is not polite to say u will call back and doesn't call back coz the other party waiting for u to call. And it shows u doesn't keep promise.

yes, it's a little power play, if deliberate, or else it's a bit lacking in caring. or else it's 'i don't want to talk to you any more, but I don't want to hurt you and say it. so i'll pretend i will call you back to get you off my back, and then hopefully you'll forget i said that'. whichever option, it's not that nice to be on the receiving end of. and means, that he or she is just not that into you, as a friend. you deserve better friends.

Yes, and I do it too. If the conversation was an ordinary one with no big news or drama, I see no big deal. I have to do this with some people who call too often, want to stay on too long and don't have anything to say.

Yes, and I've even done it myself. Accidentally. I don't suppose your friend has children, do they? That could explain it. I usually say it when a glass of milk or something has been knocked over, and within 5 minutes my brain has completely switched over to the next problem!

Yea I've had friends like that......and I admit I've done it a few times too but not intentionally. I have a busy life and get caught up in it...but eventually I do call back and apologize.
I wish my friends understood what my life was like sometimes.
