I get that all the time! I'm just sitting there when someone will come up to me and say 'Why so sad'? Huh?! I'm just sitting here minding my own business! Grrr... I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets that treatment!

Oh I get that sometimes too and it's so annoying. People will ask what's the matter and why the serious face when I'm really quite happy. Perhaps it's because we haven't got big cheesy grins on our faces all the time. I don't know about you but I think you can always tell if someone's happy by their eyes not how big the smile is or the expression on their face, you can fake a smile or a happy expression but your eyes always tell the truth. All the best to you hope you're feeling happy today!

I totally understand.
People always ask me what's wrong or if I'm mad and stuff like that. It's a bit annoying really. Sometimes mental health patients just kind of not show emotion or expression day in and day out so you don't know how they're feeling...I'm not saying that this pertains to you I'm just saying it because it could be why people think there's something wrong. trust me, I know.
sometimes I show facial expressions that have nothing to do with the way I'm feeling. I have no idea why...lol.

My friends say the same about me.
They always say 'You look sad' when I'm just staring off into space, and/or have no expression really on my face.
I guess one way you could look at it:
You see a person sitting on a bench. They have no expression, just blank, and they're staring off. If I saw them- I'd think they were deep in thought, possibly sad or depressed about something. I guess that's just a common thing people see when they see no expression; that the person is sad.
Just assure them that you're not sad- you're simply looking at something or thinking. However, it can be a good idea to put a slight smile on your face at all times. :)

edit: And yes, I have to agree with other people- it's really annoying when my friends, especially one in particular says "Why don't you ever smile" lol it makes me upset, because frankly, I'm just thinking!! NOT SAD!!! lol

Maybe you appear to look tired due to hard work and less eating. Also some times poelpes' faces look tired when they are not smiling. Who smiles all the time though? All day long?
Suggestion: Make sure you eat and sleep enough and do not over work your self.

Also smile at least once in a while. Be socialable and talkative. Sometimes people tend to believe you are happy when you are more socialable.

Maybe it has to do with the way you present yourself. How is your posture, your appearance, do you wear dark colors, ...sometimes people think you have low self esteem when you don't take care of yourself which is also percieved as sad. Also, do you take the time to smile at other people and say "hi". Maybe you're just shy and that's fine, but when people are too shy, that can also be percieved as sad. Try brightening up your look, and smiling more to see how that works.

Because most people expect other people to smile. I have the same problem. I've always been "solemn" and people mistake that for me being in a bad mood. I just tell everyone I'm a Vulcan and that seems to help!

body language and facial expressions are read constantly be other people.
Try to sit up straighter and soften your facial expression. When you see other people, smile at them and make eye contact. Be the first to initiate some polite conversation.

you always have an expression on your face, that's the defintion of your face. Perhaps, you just give off the body language that says you are sad, body language is just as important as the face when you are trying to read someone's mood. Try smiling!
