A human mission to Mars will be a joint effort by many countries and the USA and Russia will be part of it.

We could reach Mars if we wanted to spend tens of billions of dollars to accomplish it, but why? We have robots crawling around the place peering at rocks. Do we really want to bankrupt ourselves sending humans to walk around and peer at rocks?
Here's an alternative that anyone can do for a couple of thousand bucks. Not just highly trained astronauts. Get a passport from your local post office. Book a flight to Turkey on Turkish Air. Eastern Turkey is littered with rocks. Big rocks and small rocks. Rocks everywhere. You can peer at rocks at one per second and never run out. You won't have to wear a cumbersome spacesuit and Turkish hotels are much finer than a stuffy spaceship. Turkish food is great, belly dancers are breathtaking, and unlike other Muslim nations, Turkey has wonderful wines. And if you tire of inspecting the local rocks, there are a host of wonderful places to visit and great stuff to buy. Its a little known fact that Mars doesn't have one souvenir shop. No one restaurant either. This is unacceptable. Visit Turkey instead of Mars. You'll thank me for this advice.

there are a number of comapnies already aiming to do just that...
The mission of the Mars Homestead Project is to design, fund, build and operate the first permanent settlement on Mars.
The initial goal for the Mars Homestead Project is to identify the core technologies needed for an economical, growing Mars Base built primarily with local materials. Efforts will then be focused on prototype projects of increasing sophistication...

I agree, however the Russians are miles at the back of us on Mars even pondering the undeniable fact that we (US) are so a ways faraway from the assumption of touchdown on it. i think of there's a large false impression on purely how a ways China is in those form of ventures. China won't get there first...you are able to write that throughout stone. After the moon touchdown, the US grew to become their interest to Mars, and the Russians desperate to concentration on getting to know Venus. an area race could be a large factor for the financial gadget...yet precise now there is no person to compete with.

I see the idea as a question between
“capital” vs. “quality”
The U.S. has the money to research and build amazing devices.
But-
Russia has the experience and the competence to build devices, etc.
It would be much better if the both nations can combine their strong suites and get to Mars much quicker than either nation alone.

No...and Russia is not your enemy. It will be an international cooperative mission, it may be set in the US, but many countries will be involved, no country can do it alone.

Oh, probably.... but it would be expensive, and you'd need to increase NASA's budget, which congress isn't about to do.
I hope we partner *with* Russia (and China, and ESA, and Japan, and Brazil) and go as a world, not as a nation.

Yes. The knowledge of how to do it exists. It just takes lots of money, and since the U.S. has more money than Russia, the U.S. could do it sooner.
