Conservatives are always more upbeat. Liberalism is fueled by rage. Rage against the man. Rage against what they see as unfairness. Rage against judgment. Rage against white males. Rage against the rich. Rage against free will. Mostly though it is Rage against what they perceive the US to be. A racist, sexist, repressed society, founded by evil people with an unfair agenda, that favors some over others. Liberals are always worried because they do not trust their fellow man. That is why they work to prevent individual liberties, and seek to grow the power of the state. They have more faith in unelected international bodies than they do in the people the citizens chose to led us. They rage at the fact that their most cherished beliefs are not embraced by the majority of the people, and that without intervention from the courts none of their policies would be enacted. They wake up cursing the sunshine. As a Conservative, of course I believe in America. This can be summed up very simply. Conservatives are Americans, liberals are Americants

Conservatives are always optimistic. We believe in people and believe in America. Liberals, on the other hand, do not think people will ever be successful without government help. They see America not as one people united but as a patchwork of groups with grievances that require more and more government programs to solve. They are highly cynical.
If you believe in optimism look at Ronald Reagan. While all the Liberals were quivering in fear of the Soviet Union and lamenting about how we were all going to die because some jingoistic yahoo is running the White House, Reagan destroyed the mighty Soviet Union without firing a shot. He told Gorbachev to "Tear down this wall". The Liberals went nuts! How could he be so careless? That stupid cowboy is going to cause World War III. In a matter of days, the wall was gone.
Never has any president been more optimistic that Ronald Reagan. He believed in us and America voted for him in record numbers. Twice.
No liberal has ever gotten support like that. That is because America is not a Liberal country. Not by a long shot. If Liberals are really optimistic, why are no Democrat Candidates claiming the title of Liberal? Why do they avoid the term and substitute "Progressive"?

I think if you look at the beginning of the recent conservative movement that started with Reagan, conservatives were very much upbeat and optimistic about the US. With this move to big government by the recent conservatives I don't see that. But on a one on one comparison I would say c onservatives are more optimistic about this country.

In my personal opinion, conservatives are more optimistic because we take personal responsibility for our circumstances and are able to deal with things more positively.
Some liberals (not all, of course) have an entitlement mentality and since others are in charge of what they get, it is quite to their satisfaction, and they feel like they don't have control of their lives.
Not all conservatives or all liberals fit into this mold, of course, and I am not trying to label anyone.
And I certainly believe in America! Always have, always will...

Generally speaking, especially where America is concerned, I think Conservatives are more optimistic. I can't help but add that with Hillary's numbers looking the way they are, my pessimism is showing

I have observed that many liberals engage in moral pessimism… they seem to think that everyone is just as immoral as they or their friends are so, they have a really bad view on the world, America, Christians etc. They can’t understand that there are bad seeds everywhere and they themselves can make a difference by embracing morality and goodness (calling evil what it is) instead of “tolerating” everything they are told they must tolerate.
Liberals constantly engage in victim hood. To them everyone is a victim whether that person realizes it or not. While listening to Medved yesterday, a Code Pinko was on and she insisted that these poor young men and women who are being fooled into joining the military by “predator” recruiters. They just didn’t know any better, they were all victims to her (and her ilk). Never mind the fact that several marines called in and informed her that they served 1,2 or even 3 tours in Iraq and were still going to re-enlist…
This may seem like a digression but, I think it all ties together.
"Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." – CS Lewis.

Sane, functional, confident people of either party or no party whatsoever. A positive attitude is a character trait like integrity, flexibility, confidence, being a flexible giver who is no pushover, good self-control.
You'll see little evidence of good character on Yahoo Answers.

Conservatives. No question. Liberals, for the most part, are nothing but angry and dissatisfied, seeing nothing but victims and tyrannts everywhere they look.
Want proof? It's very simple. Do a quick search on the 'progressive' web sites. Case in point?
http://www.moveon.org/
Does any of this sound like a 'happy', upbeat or optimistic bunch to you?
These Chicken Littles really need to chill out.
As to your second question, absolutely. We'll weather the 'progressive' silliness. It's little more than entertaining.
