Supposedly the Mexican Hat dance comes from the Italian folk dance known as La Raspa, coming from the verb rapare (to scratch or file the ground). It was first danced in Europe and southern Italy with a pointed instead of flexed foot.

They dance, dance , dance in Market Square in downtown San Antonio during fiesta.....and it goes on all night. NIOSA, aka: Night In Old San Antonio......party! big time. Mexican dancers in costumes.
