33 weeks is not very prem, so it has a very good chance. How long it will be in hospital for all depends on the baby and how its coping. My twins were born at 24 weeks weighing 1 lb 10oz and 2lb 2 oz. they were in hospital for 6 months. They are 22 now.

At 33 weeks I would think the chance of survival is very high, weight would be around 4 to 5 lbs. Babies that are born early usually stay in the hospital until they reach 40 week point. I believe they consider anything after 26 weeks viable for life.

It is very premature but baby has a great survival rate at this many weeks. Weight differs, my baby was born at 34 weeks and weighed 4 pound 6. That was considered a good weight. At 33 weeks you're probably looking at about 3 pounds. The doctors say that you will usually have your baby home by its due date, any sooner is a bonus.

Hello a baby born at 33 weeks will be fine,my first son was born at 28 weeks and five days and i was monitored every 4 hours and my little boy decided to break my waters and have a poo whilst in my tum,i had steroid jabs to strengthen his lungs and,my blood changed and it could be an infection so i had a c,section and out he came,he was almost see through and was wired up to lots of machines and after 2 months he came home, and apart from getting every bug going hes a happy 7 year old.he had test on his eyes ears etc but hes the normal boy.33 weeks baby will be smaller than a full term but will soon catch up.Baby will not be long in hospital as long as baby feeds OK and gains weight you will be home fairly quickly, all babies are different so weight hard to tell. All the best x

Hey there i had a baby who was born at 24 weeks gestation and she survived. Having a baby at 33 weeks has a very high chance of surviving. No need to worry the baby will be in the best place. Good luck

A baby born at 33 weeks gestation would survive and most likely wouldn't even have to be on oxygen. You could probably look for the weight to be around 4 to 5 pounds, depending on the baby. If there's no problems and the baby is gaining weight well, then they may only keep it a week, otehrwise they like to keep preemies until they're 36 weeks gestation age, depending on the circumstances of course. My little cousin was born at 23 weeks gestation...he's a healthy roudy 12 year old. A friend of mine just had her baby at 30 weeks, the baby weighed almost 4 pounds and didn't need to be on oxygen at all and is doing just fine!

At 33 wks, chances of survival are great. This is within a couple of weeks to full term. Time in the hospital depends on the baby's needs at birth. I'd say at least 48 hours for the mom to recover.
Congratulations...nothing to worry about!

My daughter was born at 33 weeks and spent 2 days in intensive care then 2 weeks in SCBU.
The survival rates are very high, and its unlikely the baby will have problems
My daughter has no problems (shes 5 and a half months now)
She was 3 pounds 1 ounce when born and is now 13 pounds! shes very nearly caught up with her peers.
when she was born the only problem we had was that she tired very quickly sucking her bottle so she was iven half of it through a tube to her tummy and the other half from the bottle. She only had the tube in 2 weeks though.
Dont worry, the baby may be smaller but doubt he/she will have any problems.
good luck

Their chances at this stage are very high - a baby born at 28 weeks even has a 75% chance of survival. To put it another way, midwives and doctors consider babies born any time after 37 weeks as full term...

With modern medicine premees stand an excellent chance of survival. I dont know if you ever heard this, but about 1 year ago somewhere in the midwest, a baby was born at 20 weeks gestation, and LIVED! I saw it on msn.com, they had pictures of the baby, it was pretty amazing. At 33 weeks, they'll probably be in the hosptial, then go home and be totally healthy.
