I'm an A student in my field of study (creative writing), but this semester I'm taking a bunch of classes in other subjects to fill requirements. I started out working really hard as usual, only to find that I am doing about as well or worse than the people who've admitted to me that they don't study or that they do the minimum amount of work the day before it's due.

So now that I realize that putting in extra effort is a waste of time, I'm at a point where I hate my classes and am waiting until the day before huge assignments are due to start working. This is also making me miserable.

What can I do to get motivated enough to get through this semester, knowing that my grades are going to take a hit anyway?

Hmm, well I am totally understanding what you are going through. I am in the process of getting my masters. I made it through undergrad. with honors. I am totally not excited about my classes right now either.
About you though...I had to take a lot of classes in undergrad. that I wasn't thrilled about too. It is very important to continue making good grades..even though these classes aren't your cup of tea. I would take lots of notes...I wrote everything the professor said pretty much in order to stay awake and stay focused when I was bored. I would make study guides early and pretty much forced myself to review the material long before the test. I was a procrastinator too. Putting things off only stresses you out and as you know, makes you miserable.
Just psych yourself out and make yourself become a nerd. Stay focused on the big picture...good grades and graduating. If you want to get your masters, you have to make good grades to get into another school.
I know it is hard to keep your head on straight, especially when you are not the least bit interested in these classes, but if I were you, I would try really hard to participate in class...ask questions, get involved in discussions. A lot of professors base your final grade on class participation, test, papers, etc...Who knows, you might find out you like these classes afterall. Stranger things have happened.
Good luck and like I said, try to focus on the big picture.
I'm hating the program I'm in right now...I'm just burned out on school. I'll tell you like my advisor told me in undergrad...you owe society a bachelors degree, you owe yourself a masters....Good luck!

Are you taking too many classes? Maybe you should try taking three regular classes and one or a couple of classes that are fun. Even if you do not get any credit for these classes. Taking classes that are easy and fun boost your self esteem. Also doing fun things relieve some of the stress that you have from the other classes, and as a result you will be a happier person. Doing something that you enjoy doing is always fulfilling. People perform better when they have balance in their lives. Do what you like to do, and figure a way to get paid for it.

If you hate your classes have you thought of changing your major? The classes you are taking don't appear to be anything of interest to you. If it's a profession/career you aren't interested then change. The profession/career will only result in more negativity. Remember you are there to learn, this is your chance don't blow it with something you will not have a life long interest in.

there is really nothing you could do about that and the only one who could motivate you into doing that is yourself.
