First, I do have a boat and I can read a compass, but, GPS sure is nice. So, I not the best Navigator around. But, here how I would go, shooting from the hip and not sitting down at the table to calculate.

Galapagos Latitude : 0º, Longitude: 90º West.
Ecuador. Latitude: 0.17 South. Longitude: 78.60 West.
Galapagos is 965 kilometres (about 600 miles) west of Ecuador. I would head West, with a slight North mindset. In other words. I head North/West but we not talking much of a North. West should get me there. 600 miles is not far, but, wind and ocean currents can put a person on a course that you never see Galapagos. Depending on speed I could check my bearings every hour using a Sextant. With GPS a person can enter the Start and Stop Latitude/Longitude and the GPS give your heading.

At a cruising speed of about 5 MPH (Not knots) I should see Galapagos in about 5 days.
In about a month, if, I see Australia (I did not figure the distance and just Joke on this) then ....... I was wrong. LOL!

Yes, Philly is right. The equator crosses Ecuador and the Galapagos straddle the equator. You can hire a chartered boat that leaves from Pedernales then sails right on the equator due west, 640 miles and you land in northern Isabella Island of the Galapagos. From there, the same tour company can take you on an excursion to a live vocano.

Above are correct. You go West. But, as mentioned, you not keep a proper heading and you never see Galapagos Island. Guess it depend how Technical your answer for Thursday need to be.
