would like to know if you think the time limit in which to have an abortion should be lowered, not changed or even made higher from the current limit of 24 weeks.

Abortion is government-sanctioned murder, so there is no acceptable time to have an abortion. (That will get me alot of thumbs down, I'm sure - but it's the rock solid truth.)

I myself would never have an abortion, but I do consider myself to be pro-choice. People have to understand that every woman's situation is different. For example victims of rape should never have to carry their rapists baby. And sometimes pregnancy can put the mothers life in danger. When I was a teenager a girl that I went to highschool with had to have abortion because her parents threatened to kick her out of the house, and at fifteen she had practically no choice but to abort. I think the limit of 24 weeks should either be made lower or stay the same.
What I'm trying to say is that if a person doesn't want to have a baby then they shouldn't be forced to do so. It's their business and their business only, no one has the right to judge them.

Of course abortion is bad - contraception should always be used - but rapes happen and so do accidents so I think it's a necessary evil. However, if someone requires an abortion it should be done as early in the pregnancy as possible. The present time limit is far too late. The foetuses are virtually viable babies which is distressing to both the mother and medical staff having to perform the operation. The procedure should be done far earlier than 24 weeks unless there are really exceptional circumstances. Again, unless there are really exceptional circumstances, unwanted pregnancies should continue to full-term and the resultant baby given for adoption if the mother is still adamant she doesn't want a child. There are plenty of loving families desperate for children who would take them on.

I agree that it should be lowered so that the fetus is not as developed. Three months (3 mos) I think could be better. Most women know before then that they're pregnant and if they know they can't have their child they should do it right away instead of waiting until the child is more formed. I am pro-choice, I just believe the sooner you have an abortion (for the right reasons of course, not as a form of birth control like some do these days) the easier it is on you and the less developed the fetus is.

By the way I find it interesting that most of the ones saying how horrible abortion is are men.

Research is now being done, that shows that a fetus can feel pain from as young as 18 weeks. Apparently the part of the brain that can feel pain on an adult is in the centre of our brain, (where the research was first tested)but a fetus, the pain receptors are formed at the lower part of the brain first . So the previous tests done to prove this are wrong. With this in mind i believe it should be lowered, the only problem with that is with the hospitals being crowded or whatever most women get postponed for weeks before they are able to abort their child. I think this would be a very struggling issue for women who are already torn between their decisions. Especially if they were to miss their date because of a waiting list and then not be able to have an abortion. In the UK most women are allowed to abort on the grounds that mentally and physically they would not be able to cope. i think this is a too easy option and that it should be scrutinised more. As for the comment above on women should stop "putting it about" as he put it. Well it takes two to make a baby, and both partners are often willing. Dont go blaming women, its their body and their choice.

I think it should stay as it is. And I also think that people should remember that a woman could not get pregnant without a man. And many men want the woman to have an abortion. Some women have an abortion mainly because the man doesn't want her to have his baby.

How inhumane is partial-birth abortion.
They kill a living baby that may survive on its own outside of the mother.
By just leaving the head still inside the mother while they kill the baby they think they can legally call it an abortion.
Abortion is nothing less than infanticide.
Abortion at any stage is cessation of an innocent human life that God intended great things for, whether its legal or not.

24 weeks is about the best that we can do. I've never met anyone who is "for" abortion. But intelligent people realize that this is a necessary evil and making it illegal will not make it stop. It makes the problem sadder.

I don't believe in abortion. Unless somebody really needs one....then they should have access to a clean, modern, procedure, performed with understanding and compassion.

If you believe that abortion is murder, then you should never get one.

But other people have extremely compelling reasons why they do need one and it's nobody's business except their own.

Not changed.

I don't think the limits of external viability should be used as a criterion. Technology is advancing all the time, and sooner or later it will be technically possible to continue gestation out side of the womb practically from conception - but providing there is tons of hi-tech support available. That is what makes it an artificial benchmark.

I think definitely lowered. Also, I feel that abortion shouldn't be just seen as another form of contraception. It should only be allowed in exceptional circumstances e.g. rape, deformity, etc. The excuse purely of 'I don't want it' should not be considered valid!

If you don't want it, give it up for adoption at birth to a couple who can't have children of their own!
