You could always try Open Office at http://www.openoffice.org/. It's a free equivalent of MS Office and should be able to work with any of the Microsoft files.

Microsoft products are copyright protected so should be bought to be legal.Older versions of microsoft office are a lot cheaper than the newest versions.
A free alternative is available at www.openoffice.org however this is not microsoft word and excell but will be more than adequate for your needs.
