it may hurt her feelings,but i'm sure she would understand. if you feel uncomfortable driving in the rain, by all means, don't. when she does finally see you, your delay will be all forgotten with the first hug.

Just be honest, she is your mother, and I'm sure she wouldn't want you driving 3 1/2 hours away in the pouring rain, I think she would be just as concerned as you are. : )

mothers always understands the difficulties of their children.. tell her
" mother, you know how much i love you and you know how much busy i am and you also know my likes and dislikes. i was going to come but the rain!!!!! you know that i hate driving in the rain. i am telling you this because i know you are an understanding mother and that you would realise my feelings. i don't know what else to say!!!! i don't even have words to express my sadness cause i wasn't able to visit you. please understand mum. i know you do but just saying. i promise i will come the next day!!!!"
then what other things you want to say. the next day bring her something she likes that could show her your love.
