The sign of the devil is usually taken to be 666. The first, middle and last digits of product barcodes (UPCs) are 6. These are known as "checksums" and are used by the checkout scanners as comparators to the answer obtained by performing a standard set of mathematical operations on the intervening figures to determine the validity of the UPC. If 6 is not the answer obtained, then one of the intervening figures has been read incorrectly and the product is either rejected or the correct figure is determined and re-read. The sign of the devil being on every product you buy is linked (by those who so believe) back to the Revelations verse that states nobody will be able to buy or sell anything without having the mark of the devil, although this linkage is somewhat inaccurate since the Revelations verse states quite clearly that it is people, not products that will need to have the mark of the devil in order to trade in commerce.
