I believe it's rooted in psychology, & is what's known today as 'team bonding'. Physical contact lends to the spirit of togetherness, and support for the team effort. I think the theory would be that someone who is 'left out' will be a weak link, so to speak.
If it's "guilt", well, I'm guilty too. I've shook hands, patted backs & all that, but I can assure you I've never smacked a guy's butt! *LOL* The key is, watch how far apart the guys stay in the shower! (J/K) (But serious!) *LOL*

It doesn't really bother me unless I see like this burly football player slap his teammate on the a*ss. I am like why couldn't he have slapped his helment (no pun) or did a chest hit or something. Anything else besides a gay a*ss grab. I guess they do it because the love of the gayyme....

With all the excitement and all they lose some of their inhibitions. Hell, when someone from my home team scores a TD, I too wanna just run from the stands and start @ss slappin those players myself!!

touching maybe a sign of support, camaraderie, encouragement. i don't know why other people think touching another guy means you're gay. you shouldn't misinterpret an encouraging touch from a caress.
